The lithic material consists of a few flakes of flint. 16. Fiskåhelleren is situated on the coast of Karmøy, Rogaland. Although its location is broadly coastal, it actually lies inland on the island Karmøy close to the shore of Fiskåvatnet (a freshwater lake). It was excavated in 2007 and 2008 (Eilertsen 2009). The Mesolithic layers were radiocarbon dated to about 7040–5560 cal BC. Stone adzes with round cross-sections were found. The lithic tool assemblage is dominated by microblades. Scalene triangles were also abundant.

No systematic survey has yet been directed specifically towards locating caves and rockshelters with prehistoric use in Norway. Such sites are usually found and reported accidentally by non-archaeologists, or as part of general cultural heritage surveys. Nevertheless, during the last few years, there has been a renewed interest in Mesolithic caves and rockshelters in Norwegian archaeology. Some of this interest has been related to their roles as funerary sites (Todnem 1999). g. T. B. Olsen 2006; Bergsvik and Hufthammer 2009; Eilertsen 2009).
