One problem with assuming that these casseroles were used in exactly the same way as in north Africa is that fragments of the braziers have rarely been identified in Britain. It is possible that the braziers, being less well fired than the casseroles, have not survived in a recognisable form;5 but it is worth considering whether or not it was the size of the vessel that was important.
