The grandfather clock was there, along with the beds, pictures of Versailles on the walls and the original stained glass windows, some Victorian, some Art Nouveau. The upright piano had been converted to a writing desk. By the porch stood the family’s two-wheeled carriage of wood and brass with shafts for the horse. The ornate banisters up to the first floor were unchanged, and a first floor room stretching the full depth of the house had stained glass on the balcony in front and in the bathroom behind.
